Yarn for AURORA and ELSA sweaters from Runastrikk x Helenemoo
We are so lucky that we have been allowed to dye the yarn for two new sweaters from the FRYD collection by Runastrikk x Helenemoo: AURORA and ELSA. We are honored, and not least very impressed by the gorgeous patterns they have managed to conjure up in hand-dyed, delicious Norwegian untreated merino wool.
Norwegian merino wool - who would have thought? A yarn that is as close to its natural origins as possible. No superwash treatment, just a wash to remove the dirt from the fleece then combed for spinning. A great choice for those looking for a luxurious, non superwash, no nylon yarn.
The skilled and committed people at Leine cut and collect the best wool. The longest fibers become yarn. Together with Norsk Kunstvevgarn, they have developed a completely pure merino knitting yarn, untreated and free of chemical additives. Wool's own impregnation, the natural lanolin, is left in the wool. This increases the heat effect and protects the fibers. We have chosen to give the thread a little extra twist to get good elasticity and strength. Clothes made from the yarn can be machine washed, preferably with perfume-free wool detergent. If you want to felt your knitwear in a machine, we recommend a cotton program at 40°C.
If the wool becomes tired and lifeless after a lot of washing, it can be replenished with new lanolin with a wool treatment.
We use acid dyes, which are gentle on the environment and provide vibrant and very durable colors.

Hand-dyed yarn, as the name suggests, is a craft, and there will be differences between skeins. There are a few things that might be good to know before you get started:
There is different ways of using skeins, however when knitting garments, we recommend, as good practice, alternating skeins, it’s not usually essential but it does help to spread colours evenly. The Helix method is our favourite technique when knitting in the round. The more colorvariety in the yarn, the more important. This is explained nicely when knitting in the round in this video, and when you knit back and forth in this video.
If you don't want to knit every other round from different skeins (this is done at your own risk 😉), it is recommended to do this a few rounds when changing yarn. This applies regardless of the color of the yarn.
We want you to get the best possible result on the knitwear you spend a lot of time and resources on. 🥰
We recommend hand washing followed by a quick spin, or wool wash program temperature 30°C/86°F if you trust your washing machine. Use ONLY detergent intended for wool/silk (Milo or such). Feel free to add a little clear vinegar - this helps preserve the colors. Do not soak the garment.
Please note that the yarn may contain excess colour. Therefore, wash separately the first time.
All knitted garments should be stored flat.
